Find Active Senior Living Near You

New Perspective offers various senior living options across the country. All of our communities are welcoming and full of supportive staff to make it feel like home.

Your Options for Active Senior Living

For older adults who want to stay active without the demands of maintaining a home, New Perspective offers two distinct living options worth considering. Both are designed around independence and connection, just with a different feel to everyday life.

Both options offer a meaningful way to enjoy this chapter of life. The right choice often comes down to how you prefer to spend your time and how much community connection you want built into your daily rhythm.

Independent Living Apartments

Senior apartment communities bring everything close together. Fitness centers, dining rooms, activity spaces, and common areas are all within the same building or campus, which makes it easy to stay engaged without much effort. Residents can fill their days with group fitness classes, social events, and planned outings, or simply enjoy the company of neighbors down the hall. It’s an active lifestyle built around community, and for many people, that convenience is exactly what makes it feel like home.

55+ Patio Home Communities

Patio homes in 55+ communities offer a different kind of independence. Residents enjoy the privacy and feel of a single-floor home, often with a yard or outdoor space, while still being part of a like-minded neighborhood of peers. The pace tends to be a little quieter, but that doesn’t mean less active. Many residents find they have more freedom to structure their days around personal hobbies, outdoor activities, and their own routines, without the isolation that can come from living alone in a traditional home.

How to Decide

Deciding between a senior apartment and a patio home often comes down to one honest question: how do you prefer to spend your days? If you find energy in being around people, enjoy having activities and dining just steps away, and like the ease of a low-maintenance lifestyle with built-in community, a senior apartment community may feel like the natural fit.

If you value more privacy and a quieter home base, a patio home community might suit you better. There’s no wrong answer, and many older adults find it helpful to tour both options before deciding. The goal is simply to find the environment where you can continue living the way you want to: actively, comfortably, and on your own terms.

Are Active Retirement Communities Affordable?

For older adults who are active and largely self-sufficient, a senior apartment or patio home can actually be a cost-effective option, with more ways to pay than most families initially realize. The most common approach is to draw from private funds, personal savings, retirement income, pensions, or investments. Selling your home is another potential option. Most residents end up combining a few of these sources rather than relying on just one. Our team is always happy to walk through what senior living costs typically look like so you can plan with confidence.

Ways to Stay Active

Staying active looks different for everyone, and one of the advantages of independent living is that there are usually plenty of ways to do it. Many senior apartment communities offer on-site fitness centers, group exercise classes, and wellness programs that make it easy to build movement into the day without leaving home. Social activities like book clubs, garden clubs, and game nights keep the mind engaged, while planned outings to local destinations add variety to the week.

For those in patio home communities, staying active often takes a more self-directed shape. Gardening, walking, and cycling are common ways residents enjoy the outdoors at their own pace. Whether the preference is a group fitness class or a quiet morning walk, independent living is designed to give older adults the flexibility to stay active in the ways that feel most natural to them.
